NCC Unit 20 Maharashtra Battalion NCC Nagpur Report on the NCC Cadets’ Contributions to Social Distancing Measures during the COVID-19 Pandemic

The deployment commenced on April 15, 2020, and concluded on May 15, 2020. During this period, the cadets successfully registered a total of 41,780 beneficiaries.

In the unprecedented circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets of VMV College exhibited remarkable dedication and selflessness. Under the guidance of Director Students’ Development, RTMNU Nagpur and Associate NCC Officer Lt. Dr. Abhay Mudgal, Care Taker Officers (CTOs) Pankaj Raut and Navaid Sheikh, 183 cadets were deployed to implement social distancing protocols at Public Distribution System (PDS) shops across East and Central Nagpur. This region, under the jurisdiction of the Nagpur District Collector, was particularly vulnerable due to its high prevalence of COVID-19 patients.

Despite the inherent risks, these cadets, in collaboration with Indian Army soldiers attached to NCC Unit (PI Staff) played a vital role in safeguarding the lives of thousands of civilians. They meticulously adhered to social distancing guidelines, prioritizing the well-being of the community over their own safety. Their unwavering commitment was recognized and commended by Highly Decorated NCC Group Commander M. Kalim and Colonel Pradhan from the Artillery Battery Unit of the NCC Nagpur, who visited the sites to express their gratitude for the cadets’ bravery and dedication.

To further bolster the morale of the cadets, the NCC unit in charge, Lt. Colonel Sanjay Kadam, personally visited the PDS shops. His uplifting interaction with the cadets reinforced their unwavering commitment to the cause. Throughout this period, all deployed personnel adhered strictly to COVID-19 protocols, demonstrating exceptional discipline and responsibility.

The selfless service provided by the NCC cadets not only contributed to maintaining social order but also instilled a sense of trust and security among the local population. Their commendable actions during this critical juncture have left an indelible mark on the community, underscoring the pivotal role of youth and disciplined forces in times of crisis. The beneficiaries of their efforts numbered in the thousands, reflecting the significant impact of their service.
